Against Donald Trump

“In a society like ours, where every man may transmute his private thought into history and destiny by dropping it into the ballot-box, a peculiar responsibility rests upon the individual … For, though during its term of office the government be practically as independent of the popular will as that of Russia, yet every fourth year the people are called upon to pronounce upon the conduct of their affairs. Theoretically, at least, to give democracy any standing-ground for an argument with despotism or oligarchy, a majority of the men composing it should be statesmen and thinkers.” – James Russell Lowell, founding editor of The Atlantic, October 1860

What were they thinking?

You know they probably thought this was a good idea, personalized stickers with our first names emblazoned on them. “Freds for H”, “Marys for H”. It works for most names, but my first name is John and somehow I can imagine this might be taken in the wrong context. I should donate and get one before someone in the Clinton team  has an “Oops” moment.

I wonder of that team of advisors were inspired by a satirical piece that was published in February 2016?

I’m settling for Hillary

I voted for Bernie Sanders but I am not on the #BernieOrBust bandwagon. Senator Warren’s endorsement of her last night sealed the deal for me.

Once again I’m in the position of voting for the lesser of two evils but in this case Trump is clearly the more dangerous choice. Bernie has accomplished a lot by highlighting issues that are important to voters. Hillary is pragmatic, she knows she needs these voters and hopefully she’ll pick a progressive running mate.

Folks can support Gary Johnson and Jill Stein and feel they are making a statement but frankly the interests that run the country don’t care. I think they see it as divide and conquer. Trump is already making  a play for them to revolt against Hillary.

Mitch McConnell is hoping that Trump will stick to the “script”.Ponder what that means. The authors of the script do not have your interests in mind.

“Am I ready for Hillary? Yes. Am I excited? No. It’s like getting a shot. Are you ready? Yes, I’m ready for it.” – Bill Maher

Open Letter to Majority America

And this is the dilemma for reasonable people everywhere, Senator Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska) summed it pretty well in this Facebook posting. I had to pen a letter to Senator Ayotte (R-New Hampshire) this morning because she SUPPORTS DONALD TRUMP!

She explains that she SUPPORTS but doesn’t ENDORSE Ttump. Oh isn’t that nuanced? Remember Bill Clinton defining the meaning of “is”?

As verbs the difference between support and endorse

is that support is to keep from falling while endorse is to support, to back, to give one’s approval to, especially officially or by signature.
